A process of signing documents digitally that uses high-levels of encryption in order to ensure that the signature is legally verifiable and binding in the same way as a handwritten signature.
Signing documents through a document creation or editing application is not legally binding, and thus has no value. Through Eurosign’s legally verified platform that complies with all EU regulations, as established in eIDAS, all documents signed through Eurosign are legally enforceable as if the document was signed using a handwritten signature.
No Eurosign account or special software is required to sign documents through Eurosign. When a signature request is sent to you, just click the link in the email which will open the document and provide instructions on how to sign it. After signing the document, you’ll be given the option to make a free account to access a viewable history of the documents you have signed.
To use Eurosign, subscribe to the plan that best fits your needs. For small and medium sized organizations, we recommend our personal or standard plan. In order to access this information just sign into your account on the Eurosign website.

Eurosign offers multiple signature levels to allow you to choose the level of signature that’s best suited to your current document’s needs.
Some industries have regulations that require a specific signature level when signing documents. Before making a decision, check to make sure you are complying with your local industry’s regulations. In cases where these industry regulations do not apply, please use this guide describing the three signature types available through Eurosign to help you best decide:
- Standard: This signature level is the most commonly used electronic signature level. It provides a legal framework for signing documents digitally, but there is no identity verification of signatories. For most documents that do not involve a monetary risk a standard signature will be easiest to work with and sufficient. Documents where a standard signature is generally sufficient include but are not limited to:
Employment and payroll contracts, invoices, memos, sign-up forms, polls, licensing agreements, new customer agreements, and HR documents.
- Standard with Identity Check: This signature level provides the same legal protection as a standard signature but with the addition of a signatory identity check. To verify the signatory’s identity, they will be asked to provide a government ID such as a national ID card, passport, or visa. Documents where a standard signature with identity check are generally sufficient include but are not limited to:
Rental agreements, sales contracts, bank transfers, healthcare forms, education forms (student enrollment forms, etc.)
- Advanced: This signature level, as defined by eIDAS, requires a signatory identity check prior to signing through the providing a government ID such as a national ID card, passport, or visa. When the document is signed, it is digitally certified and verifiable that the individual signing the document is who they say they are. In addition, the document data will be cryptographically verifiable, which guarantees that the document’s contents cannot be modified after it has been signed. This type of signature should be reserved for documents involving financing or where there is a considerable risk of fraud. Documents where an advanced signature is recommended include but are not limited to:
Bank loan agreements, credit card agreements, life insurance contracts, home insurance contracts, car insurance contracts

eIDAS (electronic IDentification Authentication and trust Services) is a set of regulations passed by the EU that govern, among other things, the properties of legally binding electronic signatures within EU member states. In order to be considered a legally binding electronic signature within the EU, the electronic signature must be supplied through a framework that is compliant with the standards established through eIDAS. Because Eurosign is eIDAS certified, all electronic signatures made through Eurosign are legally binding throughout the EU, USA, and beyond.

Generally you should use the identity checking service if the information contained in a document is highly sensitive or confidential.
